Shenzhen-Hong Kong Cooperation Research Center
Shenzhen and Hong Kong are neighbouring metropolitan cities.   Hong Kong has developed into Asia’s world city from a fishing village and now excels in modern service industries.  Shenzhen has grown from a town with agricultural land to a vibrant city with multi-faceted economic activities.   The two cities are competing with each other in some ways, but more important Shenzhen and Hong Kong can complement each other even more.   Hong Kong attracts talents from all over the world; Shenzhen attracts talents from all parts of China.  Hong Kong has rich experiences in and well-established institutions for doing business; Shenzhen has a big market, well-developed technological infrastructure, and innovative entrepreneurs.  For some reasons, the two cities have not engaged in wide and deep enough cooperation in the past years.

The Shenzhen-Hong Kong Cooperation Research Center at QIIR is committed to undertaking studies on the obstacles of furthering Shenzhen-Hong Kong cooperation, the areas for deeper and wider cooperation, and the mechanism for closer cooperation between the two cities.   Our studies will not be confined to economics and finance, but extended to social, technological, educational, and cultural areas.

We have completed two studies on Shenzhen-Hong Kong cooperation: in the development of the financial sector and that of the logistics industry.   We have also organized a roundtable on Shenzhen-Hong Kong Cooperation, bringing together five experts from Hong Kong representing the major industry and service sectors.  The next step will be a study on the mechanism for furthering closer Shenzhen-Hong Kong cooperation.
